Vessel of honour or dishonour?
It’s your choice to make
In church today, the conversation revolved around the different types of vessels in a great house — gold and silver, wood and earth — which can either be vessels of honour or dishonour (2 Timothy 2:20–21, KJV).
Something is evident: the house is great, so it makes sense that it accommodates all vessels, regardless of type. And however you choose to look at it, wood and earthenware still have their uses in every house, dare I say.
Relating it to people, you are like wood or earthenware if you choose to exist in your natural state (which inclines toward evil) and like gold or silver if you aim upwards (to be righteous). The concept of righteousness is further explored in the surrounding verses of 2 Timothy 2, which emphasize qualities such as faithfulness, avoiding foolish arguments, and pursuing peace.
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. — 2 Timothy 2:21
Regardless of your choice, you, my friend, are still valuable simply for existing.
As for me, gold, all the way!!!
