Never say never
Never say never, they say. Now I know why.
I never thought I’d be the one to say this, but,
I need an iOS device.
I have always been an Android OS fanboy — dissing anything with the bitten apple. It may have been the loud marketing by every Tom, Dick, and Harry on the street, whose only valid point, if you do engage them, seems to be the camera. They don’t seem to care about any other statistic — like faster charging speeds, higher resolution displays, foldable screens, or a wide range of settings where Android devices consistently shine.
I have always appreciated the sense of freedom and customizability that Android OS offers. Features like diverse hardware designs and the ability to sideload apps and custom ROMs have always appealed to me compared to the more uniform and curated iOS experience.
Also, everything seemed to be about class and luxury. But I admire a different kind of luxury — quiet luxury — unbranded, lesser known, but super high quality regardless.
“What changed, though?” you might ask.
There are tons of applications that I would love to use that are only available on iOS. As a UI/UX designer, I want to see mobile designs differently. It’d be good to explore applications and user experience on a non-Android device — in this case, iOS.
I also realized that I’ve judged the entire Apple ecosystem without ever experiencing it firsthand — not a smart move at all. I got a MacBook (the M1 Pro) in February 2023, despite being a Windows lover, and I can attest that the experience has been good. The display and speakers, with their spatial audio, stand out as prime examples of Apple’s attention to detail.
That being said, I’m considering getting one as soon as my budget permits. Who knows? I might finally understand the frenzy and maybe even change my mind — though I heavily doubt it.
