Make more friends using this superpower
You already have it — just use it!
At the NASA International Space Apps Challenge 2024, I met some amazing people — Chuvo, Linh, An, Lyza, Norman, and of course, Sureka.
We were on different teams, but that didn’t stop the conversations. I made it a point to regularly check in and engage in small talk.
“How’s it going, Sureka?”
“It’s going well, actually,” she replied.
“Do you have an app yet?” I asked as she walked forward. Her team was building a game to raise awareness about climate change.
“Oh, no, we’re still brainstorming… And thanks for remembering my name,” she added. I smiled — that last line stuck with me.
I hadn’t realized until now, but it seems I have a superpower: remembering people’s names. How can something so simple make people feel so seen?
Anyway, I’m now committed to knowing and using more people’s names. You should try it out too.
