love is in the details

i met a couple in church. they had chosen to testify, given the opportunity, as is the routine.

they had raised their hands, the man and the woman. the moderator was confused. he knew they were a couple, so what was it gonna be? separate testimonies or a single, joint testimony?

turns out it was the latter.

when they came to the podium, the man spoke while the lady kept her gaze on him in a way that was cute, as if he might get lost if she looked away. only periodically did she glance at the congregation with a smile. and throughout, they held hands firmly.

moreso, the testimony was largely—if not completely—about the man. yet, she stood by him, smiling, holding his hand, present in his moment. i didn’t need a prophet or superhuman eyes to know that love lived here.

that made me think—love really is in the tiny, often unnoticed actions — the way they look at you, the way they hold your hand in public, the way they want to do everything with you... the way they don’t mind standing by you during the storm or cheering you on to victory, even if they aren’t experiencing any. and that, my friends, is the love i seek.
