Do not give to the church

Unless you know this

Once on a Sunday, I had the urge to offer money to the church following a testimony, hoping to become a partaker. At the time, I was unemployed, desperately in need of a job, and didn’t have a dime to give.

Now I wonder — did that urge come from the Holy Spirit? Or had I been indoctrinated to believe that giving to Jesus or the church would bring blessings faster? Doesn’t that mindset make me like Simon, who sought to buy the gifts of Jesus with money? (Acts 8:9–24)

I hope not.

Well, I didn’t give in. Not because I didn’t want to, but because I didn’t have anything to give. And now, looking back, I realize I had been indoctrinated, albeit wrongly. I do not need to give money to the church to be blessed — and now that I think about it, that was highly selfish of me, nevertheless, I acted in all sincerity and innocence.

What do I need to do then?

I need to understand the principles of wealth. Specific to my case, I needed to study and adopt strategies to attract a job — doing good work, creating a strong resume and portfolio, showcasing my work consistently across multiple platforms, and connecting with industry professionals. Oh, and let’s not forget the most important part: actively searching for jobs, clicking that apply button, and completing the required forms.

What’s more?

I’ve realized that my financial prosperity is secondary. What truly matters is seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness. (Matthew 6:33)

And isn’t that a relief? Considering how much we worry about everything, it’s comforting to know that the pressure — or struggle, if you prefer — can be singular.
